I was wondering if anyone has a BDI bike rack. I'd like to know if you had to drill any holes for installation. (I have a '97 Audi A4) Also, any other words of wisdom or opinions about the rack would be appreciated.
The BDI rack I'm referring to is a license-plate mounted one.

Someone a while back posted about it. They weren't impressed with the quality and ended up returning it for a full refund. I'd suggest searching the archives.
Andy

I didnt get to see the license plate part of it, but apparently you need no extra holes drilled into your car to get it to work with an A4.
The rack portion of it at all could be better designed but its not horrible. Its just a little out of date as far as bike rack technology goes. Lots of steel, no plastic.
They could use a little help with the engineering of it but the main draw is the post that sticks out of your licenseplate area....
check our www.bdiracks.com

and am happy with it. If your '97 A4 is the same as my 98.5, you do not have to drill holes in the car, just the BDI base bracket. As far as I know, it is the only rear mounted rack that doesn't either have pads that touch your paintwork or requires a trailer hitch. I have no problem hauling two mountain bikes. The initial setup is important because of its adjustability of the rack. You want to keep the bikes away from the car and each other. If anyone has more interest, I can e-mail you details of the installation and my changes.
