View Full Version : 25K too soon for front brakes?

My brake pad replacement light came on a couple days ago and was a little suprising, being that I only bought my 07 3.2 S Line in August. I've never had the front brakes wear so quickly on a car(besides a 04 Nissan Titan that was lemon lawed.) My wife's 05 Toyota Tacoma quad cab long bed 4X4 has 55K on it and it's on the original pads(our driving styles are similar and the truck almost always has a load in the bed or is pulling a boat.) Even my 05 Allroad didn't need front pads until after 40K.

The car is at the dealer today for the 25K service, but since Audi doesn't cover wear items anymore and it's on my dime, I requested that they not perform the front brake service, as I'd like to get a higher performance pad.

So, does 25K seem too soon? I don't drive like a maniac. Thanks.

Audi's and BMW's go through pads like crazy.

Jeepers - my 2006 A6 is coming up on 80,000 miles and I'm about to change the pads on all four corners for the 1st time.

I also live in the mountains, with the first/last 15 miles of my commute having a 5K foot elevation change and 150+ turns, esses and hairpins(Hwy 18 to Lake Arrowhead, in SoCal.)Although i don't brake much, I do have to slow for traffic driving under the posted speed limit. I guess I was lucky with the Allroad. I'll search the threads for a longer wearing(and with less brake dust)pad.

Can you let me know what pads you chose. I would like to replace mine with pads which throw off less dust.

Was on the sensors by 4750 miles, although that did include 1/2 day at streets of Willow, and one 20 minute session at Laguna Seca, so I swapped in a set of Porterfield Full Race pads & fluid at the track (labor by 2Bennett,) and then paid Bev Hills $460 to install a new set of factory pads when I got back to LA, because race pads are horrendous on the street, REALLY loud squeaks & rattles since no anti-vibe spring clips in back....but they work a TON better on the track.
