Look for a post by Pierre and then click on his TSB link at the bottom. I found out my CPO'd 05 A5 hadn't half of the TSB's done. It is going in this week to have them performed and they are putting in newest MMI software as part of it.

This is not an '05 issue per say - it's a MMI Software Version issue.

I know this for a fact because I just returned my '05 which had a VERY limit interaction with my iPhone... no phonebook etc but could be used via Bluetooth.

With my new '08 3.2 Quattro however everything (and I mean everything...) works perfectly and there's even different icons for my contacts 'mobile', 'home, & 'work' numbers.

So what you have do is go badger the heck out of your dealer to do the multiple tedious upgrades ... they will be VERY reluctant so you'll need to have a plan of attack.

Go get 'em !

Hey man, I really appreciate your advice. Do you have any suggestions about how I should approach this, or what i should say to them to get the dealer to do this MMI update for me???

How do you figure out what version your running?

Regarding how to actually get it done: I would simply call the dealer and schedule an appointment making it clear that you're coming in for the full MMI Software Update. If they grumble ask them why they won't / are reluctant to do it and if it would help if you had Audi USA approve the service.

And again I always suggest being polite & firm. Attitude never gets you anything.

JT,

Got some good news and some bad news. There is a TSB that can get you upgraded to 2007 MMI software and according to TSB manual, includes at least a version 5 DVD Nav Disk. The bad news is that version will not work with Iphone either.

What I was told today by my service tech was that he couldn't put in the 08 MMI software under the TSB (Audi service tech have to log the repairs). So, you should be able to use the TSB on Pierre's link to get to 2007 which included the Ver. 5 DVD disk. Then you can either order the part for the 08 Upgrade Disk for $10.00 and do it yourself or pay the dealer to do the 08 upgrade which will run about $125.00.

I personally think dealerships should do the MMI upgrades for free as a customer courtesy as long as it doesn't include the NAV disk, but at most dealerships, the Service Departments operate separatly from the Sales side so they have to be profitable and infact a lot of them drive the profits for the dealerships.

JT,

On your MMI, hit the Car button. On the screen it should say version in the lower right hand corner. Hit the corresponding button on the MMI controls. It should then say what software version you are running. My guess is that since you are on an 05, your are probably running 750. That is what I was on. I think the 07 version they take you to is 3460 and the 08 version is 4140. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

thank GOD I read this. I just bought a CPO 05' from Rusnak 2 days ago and this problem is killing me. Their selling point was that they are number one in customer service. We'll find out. BTW I'm running 3460. All I need now is a legit Ipod hookup

My only problem is the phone book transfer and caller ID with my Iphone. I also have noticed a delay sometimes, When I press the radio button, nav button, phone button, etc, it pauses and almost glitches before switching modes. Are there many benefits to newer MMI versions??

Dealer just told me reason they won't do the TSB is not incorrect version, it is that Audi has closed the TSB because ver 5 disk is no longer available from Navteq. I still got my labor for free though.

See below on AMI/Denison. My dealer was going to sell me AMI at cost plus 10% and the parts were still going to be north of $600.00 sans new glove box.

Order the Denison from Enfig, best I can surmise, anyone but an idiot can self install it in under 2 hrs.

And if you don't have voice control in your CPO, look at pierre's signature. There is a great write-up on having it activated..at least for phone anyways.
