I am going to install S6 LED's on my A6. Replacing the bumper with the S6 bumper. Does anyone know if I can keep the A6 driving lights as well or will I have to remove those since the LED's run through the DRL system, or could I plug the LED's into the Fog light system.

Thanks,

I believe you have to pick either one or the other of the lighting types - this is because there are two different types of lower grills - one for the LEDs and one for the driving lights, unless of course you butcher the driving lights grills to fit the leds in!!

I know I have to pick one or the other. My question is can I use the Driving Light wiring to run the LED's instead of the DRL wiring. I would rather have the LED's as driving lights as opposed to DRL's.

Any help would be appreciated as the other posts on this topic have only talked about VAG-COM reprogramming.

My 4.2 s-line just went into the shop to have an S6 bumper and LEDS put in. I asked the owner of the bodyshop to have it set up so that the LEDS are on instead of the running lights. He said he would take it into audi to run it by the techs and let me know what happens. I will get the car back next week around April 15th, and will post the results.

I just realized that if the LEDs are set to run instead of the daytime running lights, will the LEDS shut off during night drivng? Do the running lights run even at night?

Sorty,

I do know that there is a VAG-COM fix to keep the DRL's running all the time. For some reason, I think it is on about page 4 or 5 of this Forum. It involves setting light code to rest of world.

The problem you will have that I am hearing is that if they remove your factory Fogs, you will throw bulb missing errors.

Here is what I was told to try from MadAudi.com. Run DRL wiring to the LED's and run your FOG wiring up to where the DRL's were in the headlight housing. Replace the DRL (7067ll) bulbs with H7 Silverstars, then all lights should work, and you will throw no codes.

Of course I then asked if they had done this yet and they said no, but in theory it would work. The Headligh Housing for DRL's should be large enough to accomodate the H7's. The body shop might have to mfg something to hold the light though.

Sorty,

Looking forward to seeing the work and how the light wiring ended up being done.

Turns out that the bulb error only shows up on the screen when you turn the exterior light knob to the Fog position and pull on it.

Audi charged 3 hours labor to set the system up to have the LEDs on indefinitely and wired them to the foglight harness using a 3 pin to 2 pin wire that is sold by audi. Now I just have to try the silverstar bulbs and see how they fair when I turn the running lights on using the Fog light setting on the lighting knob. Confused? It's ok, I am too.

Will post Pics tonight...

Install is done. Attached is the pic.

S6 Bumper had to be modified to fit A6 cooling system from the inside.

S6 LEDs connected via available harness to stock Fog Light system.

LEDs were rerouted within CPU by Audi service to run as DRLs AND in conjunction with HIDs at night.

Now if turn the knob for Fogs I get a bulb error within MMI, ONLY if I turn the fog lights on.

Looks Good,

What did they do with the original DRL's in the headlight housing?

The original DRLs now function like the Fogs, in the auto position, they turn on along with the LEDS when you come home and lock the car after turning it off. Looks ugly as hell now being that the original DRLs are not hyper white. Need to swap those bulbs out with the H7s for sure.

Interesting. So the did wire the original DRL's to the Fog circutry...do they Original DRL's turn on if you turn the Headlight Selector to ON and Pull out for the FOG's. If so, switching to H7's might solve the "lightbulb warning" you get. My guess is you will need an H7's plug connection for the bulb though.
