I have had my A6 for almost a month and have had no problems with the iPod interface until today. The MMI screen says it cannot read the device. The cable is making a connection because my iPhone is charging just fine--MMI says it's initializing the device and then can't read.
I tried unplugging and reconnecting the device, turning the car off & back on, resetting my iPhone, etc. The iPod function on my phone works fine when not connected to the MMI system.
The only "new" aspect of plugging in today was that the iPhone had no charge and had shut down prior to connecting to the interface. Otherwise, nothing different. Could this have caused such an issue?
It's a small thing to not work, but I was really enjoying being able to listen to podcasts etc. Anyone have ideas of what I might try before going back to the dealer?
Thank you for your help. :)

I'm assuming you've done a 'hard reset' of your iPhone right ? Have you tried starting the car with the iPhone hooked up, tried it when it wasn't, turned it off & on when it was hooked up etc etc ? I find with Apple products (which I love & own plenty of) have the maddening habit of sometimes not working for the mere sake of it and then working again.... keep trying different scenarios is my advice.
DId your iPhone work perfectly before these symptoms developed ? I have one as well and was hoping I wouldn't need to buy a separate iPod to play music....

I did a hard reset and some of the combinations you mention. There are so many! :)
I know what you are saying about Apple products--sometimes they just need to be restarted or they suddenly work on their own, so I am going to keep trying different things today.
My iPhone has worked flawlessly since I got it in Sept. 2007, and worked fine as an iPod in the one month I have had the A6--this is the first glitch. The phone capabilities have been perfect with the Bluetooth in the car. Hopefully this problem is a fluke and when I go out in a little while, all will be fixed.
Thanks for your response.

I've gotten in the habit of just leaving one of my iPods in the car and using the iPhone only as a phone. If your iPhone is plugged into the AMI, will it still pair up with bluetooth, and work both as the music player and the phone?

Yes, it always worked well as both a phone w/Bluetooth and iPod when plugged into the interface. Today when connected to MMI, it charges and works as it should with the Bluetooth, just won't act as an iPod.
I have an iPod Photo I am going to try this afternoon after it charges. I may have to start using that as you do, and leave it in the car if it works.

and it now works. I'm not sure what was causing the issue earlier today, but seems like it was just electronics being irritable, and maybe even a smidge of a "blonde moment" on my part. :) Who knows...just glad it's working.
Thanks again for the helpful responses.

Oleander,
Can you use voice control function to select artist, title etc?
