View Full Version : Is the MMI update software free from the dealers? weAUDI105 04-03-2008, 09:30 AM i have an 05 with the old version. Im still under warranty. I get this wierd problem when i try to make a call or do anything , my mmi display freeze up. Even when I take out my keys, the diplay and lights will still on. I would have to pull the battery connection to reset it. MP4.2+6.0 04-03-2008, 10:01 AM The answer is yes on last year's rev, if you have the symptoms. There are several ones to use, but the easiest as I have been preaching on the A8 board is "I lose my surround sound settings overnight." That rev. gets you clear improvements like nanny screen suppression, bug reduction apparently and various other things. Minor goodies like altitude display. And if you are on a really old map disk (v 1 or v4 I think), I think you end up w/ one of those too because pre rev 5 it seems to be incompatible. What is not clear to me at all is what is going on with the newest rev. See the posts in the last few days on the D3 board. The title of the very helpful document we are talking about there suggests to me it's on the customer, not on Audi, but it's not clear. Maybe you guys know more over here. Remember, technically you get to a fix if you identify a problem, and the TSB's give you the roadmap to describe the problem. But, I don't see a TSB giving any roadmap to the latest rev. so far. Apparently 'they do not sell this part' the guy started to say the words navtech, (for the DVD system) and I just couldn't handle it anymore! He gave me a price 10.33 or something like that, and then some "buddy" says to him they can't/won't sell that part. I need to speak to service if I want to get an update installed. ESN 04-03-2008, 02:19 PM agw2 04-03-2008, 06:45 PM Does it seem feasible to do it at home even having a VAG available? agw2 04-03-2008, 06:47 PM MP4.2+6.0 04-03-2008, 09:56 PM RAD2 04-04-2008, 03:00 AM agw2 04-04-2008, 04:07 AM Any chance you could upload it on a file sharing site in an ISO format? Thanks much for your answers matt2meyer 04-04-2008, 04:52 AM Can someone post or send me Carson @ Riverside's e-mail address? No, I can't upload it since: a. it's copyrighted b. I don't know how (you have to pass through Nero from what I gather; guys who tried to straight copy it already ran into issues as I read the boards); none of this is my forte anyway. c. Clair charged me all of less than $6 (as in guys, just buy it..) d. Most importantly, after reading the frustrations on the D3 board and the earlier copy attempts (maybe on this board?), it's not going to surprise me that something obscure in copying might lead to an issue. First one who blows up a few embedded controller boxes is not going to be a happy camper. And boy, good luck explaining that one to the service writer and trying to get it covered... Why take a chance for six bucks? 2a. Yes, and no. I followed the instructions in general. The instructions had a basic flaw/omission. I found you NEED TO UNPLUG AN IPOD FIRST if you have AMI. They mentioned CD's but forgot about the AMI. Reason I know is it didn't load the AMI successfully the first time (getting into a half hour, oh %$^& what do I do now loop when it just sat there). Once I aborted (MMI Return key, also not covered in the instructions) after I noticed the screen was pretty clear I had three elements correctly installed, one that had failed, and none midstream (that would have been a real worry), then I unplugged the iPod, restarted and it picked up the AMI part straight through. Thus, I ended up doing step 6 on p 5 too. 2b. For the DIY part with a VAG COM, yes. That is, I checked all the adaptation values. In my case, I had no fault codes thrown and none of the adaptation values changed. But, no of course I can't update the VW/Audi on line car database where I guess they store each car's current software revs. I'll find a way to slip it in via the service manager if it's ever relevant. 3. Yes, it took at least an hour, maybe eighty minutes. Two reasons: the "Handyvorb2" updates (in Handyvorb2/MAIN3/App and /MAIN4/App) took like forever to load in. I'm guessing Handyvorb is maybe Audi German technospeak for phone software. Second the AMI grind away time cost half an hour, again due to them forgetting to instruct iPods need to be unplugged from AMI. MP4.2+6.0 04-04-2008, 08:49 AM Having installed it, I can confirm the actual changes are hard to find. Page one of that linked document has a nice table that purports to summarize the changes. The skeptic in me says that this is to some good extent Audi covering its butt in Quebec adding in French Nav commands. Just read all that French all over your car nanny stickers if you have any questions there. Wouldn't surprise me if Audi got a ding letter from the language correctness department up there insisting on French or they would halt car shipments. The instructions are wrong about the altitude display. That came in 3360; I had it in my D3 for most of the last year since the last dealer update. Similarly, the instructions are wrong about the lawyer screen delete. That occurred on 3360 too. Don't know about the USB update, since I have a 2006 model and it says it does not apply. But, of course I know it loaded something it says was AMI related. Cell phone upgrade. Might be that this was a big part of it to get more Blackberries, iPhones and other things working better. But, since I use just a V3--which already worked great via Bluetooth--I wouldn't know the diff. MP4.2+6.0 04-04-2008, 08:54 AM daredevil1 07-14-2008, 02:43 PM So I can't do this properly unless I have a Vag Com? Anyone know how much the dealer charges? ESN 07-15-2008, 04:04 AM The VAG allows you to capture all the codes pre-update so you can correct any errors post-update. In my case, I updated w/o VAG and lost the battery meter under the "Car" function. But an AW search yielded the code and I went back in w/VAG later on and restored it. Turborusty 07-17-2008, 12:59 PM It needed 7 total software modules and took about 8 hrs to install all of them. But now they have it back as the phone is not working correctly after the update. Turborusty triplecore 07-09-2009, 07:57 PM Where does it say version after I hold car and setup? Is it in the interface. STEALTH_6 07-11-2009, 06:35 AM opinion needed!!! My dealer quoted $300, which I thought was a lot since you just load the CD's, kick off the update, and wait. I did it myself, and it was actually free as a fellow member offered to let me borrow his disks. Just follow the directions (see stickys) carefully, and you should be fine.
