OK, took my 05 C6 in for the update. Used Continental Audi in Naperville, Illinois, an hour away mind you.

Two weeks later, got the car back. Had to replace entire steering column to fix smart key module. Also had to replace gearshift, button was stuck in, so shifted between gears effortlessly, bad.

So, the MMI is now perfect.

(a) no lawyer screen, although screens pop up in other places when making certain choices.
(b) BEST OF ALL: my 8100 series Blackberry pairs up perfectly: phone book imports, can see missed calles, dialed calls, etc. And the annoying ringing over and over to confirm the phone is in fact in the car, gone.
(c) no more searching for lineup on XM
(d) I have altitude now on NAV, why? I don't care.
(e) I can now dial from the NAV search for places, i.e., restaurants
(f) some other minor things I can't remember
