After driving the allroad for 4 years and have rocks bounced off my Allroad, I never replaced my windshield. Less than a year of the A6 Avant, a stone with a small thud did my windshield.
It's annoying. I got a small star crack (the size of a quarter). I wanted it repaired by an Auto Glass shop. But a small pressure on the drillbit and the crack spreads to 6 inches. The repair guy warned me that it could happen as not all repair attempts are successful.
And this was before I was scheduled to drive 300 miles. I parked the car outside on a sunny day and the crack spread to 12-16 inches. After searching this forum, some A6 owner says our windshield is recycled glass and too soft.
So I had no choice but to go for a windshield replacement. Now I'm waiting for them to replace it on Tuesday. I'm just hoping they seal it properly. They said they use high-quality glass on Mercedes, BMW, and Audis. They said they have a lifetime warrantee on their work. What else should I be concerned about???
