I'm curious as to what "$amount above invoice" members have paid for their 2006 A6 (3.2 or 4.2). I'll be going down the path of pricing shortly and I want to have realistic expectations as well as be fair in my dealings. I have read the TMV data at Edmunds as a guide. I understand it can be a touchy subject, so I appreciate the candor.

If you could respond as follows, it would be greatly appreciated: e.g.

A6 3.2
$x above invoice

such as trade-in and financing, can change the dealer's bottom line substantially to where the margin paid up front on the car does not reflect the true cost.

When I was shopping back in the fall, the going rate seemed to be $1,000 over invoice, maybe a little more for the Avant due to lack of availability. I just checked carsdirect.com for my local zip for an 06 3.2 sedan and they are showing $1,000 over invoice, regardless of options. Note - this varies by location.

I ended up buying a new leftover 05 3.2 sedan in December for significantly less than invoice but that was due to the marketing support Audi was offering dealers at the time. Good luck shopping.

speak to Drew Polenchar at Commonwealth in Santa Ana. Drew is a no-nonsense guy who knows cars. He'll give you his bottom line without any BS. He's 10 minutes from John Wayne airport. Fly in, he picks you up, you drive home. Tell him I sent you.

And no, I have no affiliation with Drew except as a long time friend.

availibility, dealership objectives, their inventory at the time, how that particular day is going. It really does depend on a bunch of things. I've sold A6's at invoice and over list. One piece of advice I can give you is be nice. Be very nice, and you're more likely to get a better deal. Nobody gives a car away to an asshat, they don't deserve it.

I know it's a bogus fee but since I got invoice I didn't want to argue.

They also had some kind of factory incentive going. I am sure the dealer made good $$$$$.
