Me for one. I wish I had that killer TDI motor in there. One can only dream.

Hey you euro guys, post up what TDI's you have and how you like em?

hehe.
I had the following TDI's:

First TDI:
1996 C4 A6 1.9 TDI Avant
(Emerald Green/ Black)
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/70987/1996a.jpg">

1996 C4 A6 Avant 1.9 TDI, 90 bph, 5-speed, not how I would define fast, but uber reliable and great fuel economy, sold in 2000 at 115k miles.
Replaced it with a C5 A6 1.9 TDI, 110 bhp, 5-speed.

2000 C5 A6 1.9 TDI Limousine
(Ming Blue/Vanilla)
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/70987/xaudi00.jpg">

Love(d) this color combination! Huge step forward in refinement, the engine has more power and is more quiet, and it doesn't sound like a tractor anymore.
Sold it in 2004 at 120k miles, and replaced it with my current A6 Avant 2.5 TDI multitronic.
This is the best TDI I had so far, silent and powerful, but the fuel economy is not as good as the 4-cil TDI's (40% less mpg).
But in return I have a great Autobahn cruiser, top speed is 153 mph (downhill ;) ) and with the cruise control set at 110 mph (In Germany offcourse)it's really comfortable and pretty fuel efficient.

But then I don't go to Germany everyday, but it's a perfect Dutch-Highway cruiser as well!

So what's next? I think it's going to be a C6 Avant 2.7 TDI Quattro...

My dad (in Switzerland) has the Golf IV TDI, and a 2001 A6 2.5TDI which replaced the stolen 1999 A6 2.5TDI. The TDI cars are quite nice in Switzerland because of the high altitudes and steep roads. I put about 10k miles on both of his A6s while visiting, and I must say it's an amazing car. We took it to Norway where gas prices are ridiculously high, and having a range of over 1000km and the great gas mileage was quite helpful.

The bad things about this engine was the huge turbo lag (on the 1999, much better but still very noticeable on the 2001) which doesn't get any better with the Tip lag. Also, I found the engine to be a bit on the noisy side for my taste, but not all that bad.

Personally I wouldn't mind owning one as long as the turbo lag is no worse than that of a 2.0T or the 2.7T, and they put a particle filter into the exhaust system. I know, I know, but the exhaust smell is simply gross.

Surely Audi must consider bringing them over to the US with the rise in gas prices. Diesel over here is marginally higher in cost than gas, but the gain mpg would be great.

I've driven the 2.4, 2.0t, 3.2 and 4.2 and nothing really compares to the turbo/torque-rush I get from the 3.0TDI. I also love the mpg figures the engine gives me, despite being so powerful. Can only hope that you US guys get to experience it one day :)

do you have any more pics? What does the engine look like? Your A6 is an avant? Thx for indulging me in the TDI-porn.

current 2.5TDI has slightly smaller tank, as well as diesel being cheaper, so it's "only" $100 for a tank

...although it has only 140HP i think it is suficient for the car, and i can have good performances with a low consumption (8,5 lt/100Kms).

I'd preferred the 2.7TDI (180HP) or the 3.0TDI (225HP) but they would cost 70 000Eur or 80 000 Eur respectively with the options mine has. (mine costed 55 000 Eur!!!

I wish mine was diesel too.
If Audi brings diesel cars to the US you can bet BMW will too.

I would prefer a BMW diesel motor anytime over a AUdi one at least in 3.0/4.0 lts. range.
