I don't know whether this topic has been discussed on the forum yet, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up on what I learned yesterday...

Last month, I posted several threads about the oil leak that was discovered when I went in for my 5k service. This month, I'm on vacation (out of town) and had to take the car into Millenium Audi in Houston, Texas for recurring issues with my CD player. (By the way, the head mechanic at Millenium, Kevin, is great and really seems to be on the ball).

They told me that they'd had a client come in with the same oil leak as I had experienced and that Audi had finally located the problem. The Cam Shaft caps (I've heard them referred to as "caps" and "plugs") are being set in too far at the factory, which is what's causing the leak to develop. My advisor in Houston said that they popped the hoods on some of the new A6s on their lot, and they could see where the plugs were pushed in too far. He said that Audi would be doing a "campaign" for the engines that were manufactured incorrectly.

I don't whether this issue affects all '05 A6s or just certain VINs, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up. Next time you're in for service, you might have them check your plugs. Hopefully you won't need the fix.

I'm sure the parts will be stocked in America soon, but when I had my car in for the repair last month, the wait time for parts from Germany was 1 week. On the plus side, the repair took only a couple of hours once the parts were in.
