I purchased an iRiver AFT100 FM Transmitter this week. After seeing some previous posts about those devices not working well I didn't have high hopes for it in the congested Chicago market. For $30.00 I figured what the heck.
I'm happy to say it works quite well. I plugged it into the rear 12V socket to keep it out of sight and also to place it close to the antenna in the rear window.
Before turning on I went through the FM dial looking for the station with the most dead air. Meaning nothing was close to transmitting on that channel. Select 106.7 and tuned the iRiver to that frequency. The nice thing about the AFM100 is that you can select any frequency between 88.1 and 107.9 in 0.1 increments.
My MP3 player (Rio Carbon) sounds as good as an FM station and after playing around with the volume mix and trebble, bass, etc... it sounds fine. No where near CD or Sat Radio quality, but no static or interference of any kind.
All in all happy with it. Not going to be something I use everyday, but nice for trips.
