Anyone on this board know if AoA will be bringing the C6 Avant with the 4.2 to the U.S.?
Have been getting conflicting reports. One dealer said only the 3.2 will be available in the Avant while another said that the Avant will be available with both engines by Fall.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Price as of yet undetermined, but guessing around the $80K mark.
Coming in a bit less than 12 months or so.

April, you always have solid info. I hope your inclination here proves to be true!
Why not bring the RS6 Avant this time, while they're at it!

Twin turbo V10? I bet the S6 gets the V8 from the RS4. Just my my guess...April- you are usually in the know - but given the terrible sales of the current S6 in the US. I cannot imagine why they would spend the $$$ on a V10.

The new RS 6 will have the same sweet normally aspirated, high revving (8,500 or 8,750 RPM redline) V10 as the new S6 with higher output and possibly 5.5L of displacement as opposed to 5.2L of displacement. FWIW, Audi's V10 will be completely different from Lamborghini's V10. Audi's V10 will have the size, weight and space efficiency of most V8s. Rumor has it that Audi's V10 will have cylinder deactivation allowing it to run on 5 cylinders instead of 10 when full output is not needed such as driving around town, in heavy traffic and in inclement weather. Fuel economy should also be boosted substantially (10-15%).

If memory serves correctly, that 6 speed tiptonic automatic transmission is the AL810 with a maximum capacity of 597 lbs/ft of torque.

If so, it will be in the form of either the QS7, Q7 5.2 or Q7 5.5.

Audi did not intend to build an RS6, and hoped the V10 S6 would be enough. It looks like they might need an even larger gun. Right now there is great debate going on about whether to use a souped up V8 or V10. For lightness and performance, the V8 is the choice. For marketing and bragging rights (the reason most people buy these cars), the V10 makes sense. No word on what will happen. The RS6 program is not yet approved.

Which engine it will use, is undecided at this time.

Drive an S6, and you'd be amazed how good and sporty it feels:-) The revised valvetrain, exhaust, shorter gears, and suspension all make it feel like no other A6. The trick was getting people to notice it in the first place.

yes, it has never felt "underpowered" to me! it is a hoot to drive. i'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they continue the tradition of sporty, well-powered wagons.
