I've been reading this board for a few weeks as I prepared to buy an Audi A6, BMW530, or E320. Test drove all and the A6 3.2 is the car for me.
I know there are some other Chicagoans that post and I am looking for some pricing diligence specifically in the greater Chicago area. My local dealership is pricing at MSRP. I am willing to pay market, but I just wanted to do some quick market diligence to make sure MSRP is market in Chicago.
Any help out there?? Willing to share a dealership or salesman name?
PS Read a recent post re: McGrath, but it looked like there was some relationhsip history that provided the "good deal".

If you special order, and don't mind the drive, I can refer you to a guy in St. Louis that will split the dealer markup with you 50/50...before I even pushed (I ended up buying locally, in DC, so I never pushed the guy in STL).

For the last 3 cars ('97 Infiniti Q, '99 Merc CLK and '01 A6) I purchased from Loeber Motors (now called Fletcher Jones).
When shopping for my '05 A6 I found the sales department at Fletcher to be less than responsive. Voice mails unanswered, lack of knowledge about the car and a general sense of not wanting my business. Went across the street to Mercedes to look at a E320 4Matic and got the same feeling.
Ended up going to Tinley Park Audi and was an easy experience. They worked with me on price and although I didn't get a lot off the sticker at least it was more than Fletcher. I also spoke to McGrath and they were very helpful during the process, but didn't have the car I wanted in the pipeline.
My girlfriend just bought an E320 4Matic (I tried to talk her into an E500 but no luck) from Tinley Park also after trying to shop at Fletcher. When she was told that she would have to pay sticker for a left over '04 she walked out.
I like Fletcher's service department, but think they need to work on the sales department if they want to win me back in 2 years.

I actually travel frequently to St. Louis for business and would not have a problem doing a deal in St. Louis.
Open to buying off the lot or special ordering. I am under no time pressure (other than the normal desire to get into a new car!)

we couldn't get the original car from Wisconsin, so I am taking a similar car with Nav. Tim, the new sales manager is a great guy and a friend of Audiworld. We go back to when I had a 350z (he has one, among other cars). He posts frequently in the Chicago forum under the name Blownaway. Leave him a message there and I'm sure he'll take care of you.

Call Scottie Heuer at Plaza Motors. My family bought or leased a number of cars (Porsche and Audi) from him, including my current A4. www.plazamotors.com.
