My dad is looking for winter wheels for his future A6 4.2

He called the dealer and they quoted him $3700 CAN for 17in wheels and Pirelli winter tires.

That makes no sense, it way overpriced for only winter wheels.

So, he tought he could used his old 17in wheels from his current A6 4.2 (2001)

Now, getting in the numbers...

2001 A6 4.2 wheels = ET 35 and 8in wide with 235/45 17 tires

2005 A6 4.2 wheels = ET 45 and 7.5in wide with 245/45 17

Do 2001 wheels fit C6 A6?

I would tend to say that it should fit... but dealer dosen't recomend that and they don't know for sure if it will fit (of course, they prefer to sell $4k winter wheels/tires setup)

Don't get anything other than Nokian Hakkapeliitta 3/4 or Gislaved Nordfrost 2/3. They are the absolute best tires for winter and are developed in Scandinavia where the true knowledge of winter roads is. I would never trust my life to Italian (Pirelli) winter tires... :)

A6 C6 wheel fitments are unique, i.e., not the same as in the past few years. While you'd think a wheel with an ET of 40 or even 35 might fit, apparently the hub of the new A6 limits the number of wheels that will fit.

that's why I asked. If the 2005 hub is smaller then the 2001, we're correct. With centering rings, the wheels will fit no problemo.

Virtually silent, and would go through anything here in the Maryland metro area, including ice!
