At my store we just got the first shipment of A6 3.2 FSI. Firt of all this engine feels ever bit as powerful as the 2.7T. The 0-60 may be within a few tenths of each other but the new engine definately feels faster. Some people complain that the 4.2 dosent feel fast eventhough it is. Those individuals will have no problems with this engine. In comparison it feels much more powerful than the BMW 530 and also alot smoother. The BMW by comparison has more of a raw feel of the engine. To try and put it into words if you were to look at an acceleration curve the BMW would have a number of small spikes on its way to the top where the Audi would be a flat even line to the top. Acceleration is extremely linear and the midrange punch is equal if not better than the 2.7. The only difference is that it occurs about 700 RPM later and this engine loves to rev. I didnt get on it too much because it was new but the surge from 3000 to 5000 will put a smile on your face. All in all I was more impressed by the performance of this engine than the 4.2. When Idvorve the 4.2 I knew what to expect from driving S4s and the the power i expected was there, but driving the 3.2 i was suprised at the power. I cant wait to get this engine in an A4 then its definately on par with the G35.
The handling was another suprise. Let me preface this by saying that I have one of the very first 2002 PST equipped A6 with the 17in BBS RC wheels and i think that these were the hardest riding of all the sport packages with the only ecxeption being the 4.2 of the same year with the 18in sport wheels. Im pretty sure the ride got softer in 2003 when the sport package became standard. The car I drove was a normal suspension with 17in wheels, and the handling was phenomononal. It had very little lean even during abrubt maneuvers. Darting into the next lane at about 45MPH causes no body roll at all. It was also very stable through high speed turns and during the exit it feels more like the rear wants to come around than the front end wants to push very neutral overall. I was very impressed with the car and the handling was a bit better than my car. What was alot better was the feell of the ride. This new car feels more like the A8 than the previous A6. It has an extremely solid feel that you have to experience yourself.
Thats it those are my driving impressions, I hope too compare notes with others that have driven the 3.2 ill be able to post some pics of the cars most of the colors if you guys want me to.
