View Full Version : Seeing the 05 A6 4.2 today Bill 05 a6 4.2 09-20-2004, 06:56 AM Anybody have any questions before I go? (I have one on order and the dealer asked if I was interested in seeing one) Bill AUDI-TOR 09-20-2004, 07:16 AM Would like to know which suspension the car you drive has and how firm/harsh it is (on rough pavement). Also, (a) when does your dealer think '05 A6 4.2's will be able to be ordered with optional air suspension and (b) when do you expect to take delivery of your car? AUOOOO 09-20-2004, 08:25 AM that option. Could you please point to some description of that system? Thanks Bill 05 a6 4.2 09-20-2004, 10:55 AM Dealer says my a6 will be in November 15th. ( I was supposedly one of the first to order about 45-60 days ago.) They are expecting an (that means one) A6 for demo purposes last week in October. My experiences with a6's is rather limited (I've sat and drove a 2004 4.2 and I sat in the 05 but did not drive (they were doing sales training at the dealership) The car I saw today was US model (I asked), black with platinum interior, with sports suspension. Exterior looked VERY sharp. Even though I ordered the car I was very ambivalent about the grill. Somedays when I saw pics, I loved the fact that it was distinctive and in some ways "classic". Other days, I didn't like it at all. Well, I can say that for some unknown reason, the car's front looks VERY different in person than in pictures. I REALLY liked the car's nose in person. And the rest of the car looked great as well. The interior seemed noticeably more spacious than the 2004. Seats were a trifle firm but with great lateral support. Don't know if these are the same seats w/o sports package. Liked the instrument cluster and the way the dash was laid out. Trunk seemed considerably larger on the 05 but seemed to me to be a little higher, i.e., you have to lift higher and then in. Can't wait to get mine. The 05 a6 really looks different in person. For those that find fault with the appearance of the grill in pictures, you might want to reserve final judgement until you see it in person. Bill AUDI-TOR 09-20-2004, 12:28 PM I presume you're referring to my question to Bill about air suspension in the '05 A6. In a long article last April on germancarfans.com, it was mentioned (by Audi of America) that air suspension would be available as an option on the new A6's beginning in 2005, but it wsn't clear exactly when. For someone like me, who lives in a city with terribly rough streets, air suspension would enable me to soften the ride when there, but have firmer suspension when on better roads elsewhere. Bill 05 a6 4.2 09-20-2004, 12:35 PM Auditor-- Sorry I didn't see your question prior to going over to the dealership. Bill ESN 09-20-2004, 01:13 PM AUDI-TOR 09-20-2004, 02:00 PM Ed: If you can say, please let me know the source of your info. on no air suspension in the '05 A6 in 2005. It might affect whether I just go ahead and order one without it or wait till it's available. AUOOOO 09-20-2004, 09:09 PM question. I'm an avid fan of anything out of the normal when it comes to suspension, like active or somewhat active and all of Citroens high-end "Air-gas" suspensions, one of which I drive now. I did look into the excellent reference you provided, now in favirites, but didn't spot it there. Is it somewhat like the Allrad? I must confess to a level of AUDI withdrawal syndrome, since I returned her in MArch. Thus my constant keeping an "eye on the new A6". I had a 2.7T. Others have commented on the front grill before, here too. I saw it in Germany late April, and already then found the reason all seems so ambivalent about it's grill. I believe that it's the low angle always used by photographers, which show the vehicle in a manner the rest of us upright position individuals are viewing it in. So, yes I liked it immediately, but dislike thaat we can't get the shifter paddles, reserved for Europe. Sorry for the long tirade AUDI-TOR 09-21-2004, 05:14 AM The long article on the new A6 can be seen at www.germancarfans.com/news.cfm/newsid/2040408.001/ audi/1.html THE MEROVINGIAN 09-21-2004, 10:03 AM From what I has herd the air suspension may come withe the bluetooth phone prep for january builds. I also heard that there will be a price hike on the cars after Jan. Hopefully by that point we will be able to get most of the options available in Europe like wood steering wheels and suede seats. If you can, please tell me the source of your info. I can't get a straight answer from Audi itself!!
