My sanity is being threatened by the thought of buying an RS6. Can anyone out there give me balanced and fair advice on whether I should succumb or will I, as the song goes, regret it as long as I live?

View Full Version : Used RS6 threat thane 04-14-2006, 07:26 PM My sanity is being threatened by the thought of buying an RS6. Can anyone out there give me balanced and fair advice on whether I should succumb or will I, as the song goes, regret it as long as I live? LIRS6 04-14-2006, 07:37 PM Firstly, what country are you in? If in the US, then: A) Make sure that you have an RS6 authorized service dealer close at hand (they are limited in number). B) Get an extended warranty for sure, but bear in mind that even with one, maintaining these cars isn't cheap: you're looking at replacing pads/rotors every 25k or so, and no extended warranty will cover that, unless maybe CPO does? C) Know that many owners have had a variety of issues with these cars ... DRC, tranny, electric (mine had the wiring harness replaced) D) Above all, make sure that the car has not been modified AT ALL (read chipped and such), as I doubt any warranty will cover it in such case. Read posts here and on RS6.com to get a good understanding of the pluses and minuses But if you take the plunge, you'll have one hell of a great car to play with. Mine is my daily commuter, my ski car, my thrill ride all rolled into one. Now, if you want to be rational... don't ask for balanced and fair advice here. This being the home of RS6 fanatics, wannabees and trolls. LOL STFA for inspiration. When my Phaeton suffered a CEL light for 2ndary air injection malfunction I took it back to service EIGHT times. Finally went to a new dealer, 25 miles away, that had a Phaeton trained technician - who fixed it the first try. If you asked me during that difficult time, I would have said do not buy it. Nothing but "headaches, broken promises, constant failures, long wait times for spare parts, techs who do not know how to fix this car...." But now, with three months of no issues, I'm a happy driver. Good service and get a trouble-free, well cared for vehicle to begin with, and then pamper it, if you can, are key. :-) They do hold their value well for now. Blownaway 04-15-2006, 09:29 AM Let me know what you are looking for and I will try and get you what you want. Navyvet 04-15-2006, 10:16 AM I wanted a four door sedan. I also wanted quality. I wanted a company that makes an effort to take care of it's customers. I have had an Audi before (A6 4.2) and was beyond impressed with Audi customer service. Last I wanted a very fast sedan. What's the difference between an RS6 and a Mercedes S class, BMW M5, and the Chrysler 300? Racing heritage. The RS6 has racing heritage. Other four door sedans are great and all that, but ZERO racing heritage. I also like the fact that the RS6 (Audi in general), is under the radar and has not been "pimped out" by the media. Those folks are not my crowd even though they do some beautiful modifications to their cars. Nobody can see me coming and thats the way I like it. MARKNMTT 04-15-2006, 12:58 PM luck with Warranty Direct (on-line) with two of my cars. Very reasonable price on a TT and BMW, no idea on the RS6 as my car is a CPO car. You need a warranty of some type though to cover your transmission, torque converter, turbos, suspension. The first two are the weak links and have gone in my car. Couldn't imagine what it would cost not under warranty. Paldi 04-15-2006, 07:08 PM Nice Camaro Pace car. How do you drive that in stealth mode? :-) 123Thumperer® 04-15-2006, 07:45 PM ...in fact, there are many other cars that cost way more, look better on paper and attract more attention. but i wouldn't trade my RS for any of them. and if you do a have a smidgen of a need for attention, the "quality" of the attention you get from an RS beats the hell out of the quantity you get for an M or an AMG. i like talking to true enthusiasts about cars - could care less if the "bling crowd" knows what i'm driving.
