Hi gang,

Someone has offered me a RS6 motor with bent valves... What do you think it's worth and is fixing the thing even possible?

The guy said:

"The engine has sustained valve damage due to a broken cam gear. The engine has done 5,000 kms and is a complete bottom end with heads, it also comes with the following

Turbos
Air box
Starter Motor
Coils
Alternator

It requires new valves and an alternator bracket (oil/water cooler)."

what you have to do to bend a set of valves? This is the first I've read of anyone having this problem except once an A8 4.2 V8 motor had injested water and it resulted in bent valves. Perhaps caused as a result of an accident? I'll try to find out more.

The seller has so far not given any information as to the cause in his emails. I'm thinking the owner really bashed it one to have bent valves after shuch a short number of miles (kilometers) driven.

The latest email...

" I am looking for around $6000 Australian and I am in Sydney "

Wonder what 6,000 Australian works out to in USD?

April fools must come late down under. :-)

Do you have any idea how difficult an RS6 motor swap into your VW would be?

he said bent.

The engine swap requires the 5 speed transmission, the 6er can't handle it. Turbo management is supported by the controllers in the Bentley GT. Might retrofit into the Phaeton. I understand there is at least one twin turbo W12 Phaeton in Germany.

But to answer your question, it's not going to be easy and there arn't any RS6 motors in good shape available anyway. Now if VW wanted to do it... they could, no big deal. Just takes money and smog cert. The parts are in their bins.

This happens when the timing belt breaks, cam belt(s) break, or something majorly catastrophic like the connecting rod breaking causing the piston to fly up and hit the head/valves (almost impossible).

...then he has not open the motor up, so he can not conclusively say that the valves did not break open.

If you're looking for an RS6 motor, in the States, with a 6-month warranty, and all the wiring you would need, call 1-(800)ALL-AUDI, that is Shokan's number, and they parted a RS6 sedan recently that has a good motor.

Maybe the warranty in Australia is different from ours? Just speculating. Or, perhaps the car was totalled in an accident and the engine was also damaged - now with the junk yard...

And if there's any question about the credibility of the story I was given, I'd ask for documentation.

The place in New York state is a better lead, and they have a transmission.

looking for suspension #4? It's been 64 days since last time.

Yes! (800)ALL-AUDI - Shokan has a complete engine and transmission. Don't know price or condition as yet. Will know more tomorrow. Thanks for the lead, Emre. :-)
