Look carefully. The body of the article refers to an RS6 coming in 2009 (2nd to last para), and the list after that shows that the current A6 will run til 2009.
Wouldn't that mean there wont' be an RS6 from the current A6? I've heard a lot of speculation about what would power an RS6 in the current body style, but nothing from Audi about the car at all. There's also been speculation, published in an article but I don't recall where right now, that there may not be a new RS6. Maybe that meant "from the new (current) A6 generation"?
Does that make sense as a possible scenario? (EDIT: see new post replying to sparkhill for another possibility)
(PS - On the other hand, maybe Autoweek is wrong. They have been before re the RS6, reporting early on that US cars would have tire pressure monitors, showing Recaro seats in their photos, etc. Of course, that may have happened because Audi didn't tell them, or had not yet decided, about differences between Euro and US cars.)

... maybe the RS6 will be a C6, followed by a C7 A6, both in 2009?
That might fit the dates in the Autoweek article. Still, everything I read earlier indicated 2007 or maybe 2008 for the next RS6, not 2009.
Heck, it's ALL speculation until Audi makes an announcement. Right? :p

The new (C6) RS 6 will have a normally aspirated 5.5L FSI V10 with a 8,250 or 8,500 RPM redline (not the 9,000 or 9,500 RPM redline I thought or hoped it would have) producing 550 hp and either 570, 580 or 590 nm. No forced induction for any future Audi engines and models other than the 2L FSI four-cylinder (available turbocharged only in North America, available turbocharged and normally aspirated overseas) and all diesel engines (turbocharged only; there are rumors of twin turbo diesel engines but no confiration). I would be surprised, maybe pleasantly so, if the next (C7) A6 will be coming out in 2009 for 2010 (sedan) or in 2010 for 2011 (avant) instead of in 2011 for 2012 (sedan) or 2012 for 2013 (avant). Usually, Audi redesigns their vehicles every seven to ten years. Five years just seems too soon for Audi.

...leaves a lot to be desired. Right now anyone can buy a 2006 Corvette with the 400hp Z51 performance package and get 0-60 in 4.1 and 186mph.
for less than $45K
It's not even the Z06, with 505hp 0-60 in 3.5, 198mph

...doing great stuff, as well. i'm not one of them. it's all subjective.
admittedly, the latest vette body has much better, more modern lines. i do like the headlamp treatment. but stylistically, it is not the car for me.
performance is also unarguable - most bang for your buck out there is a vette, unless you lean towards the lotus approach, in which case you completely don't care about looks.
but i'll think you'll find that for most german luxo-sport lovers, the vette is not an option. we like a comfy, luxurious and unique car, with an immaculate interior, that unexpectedly goes like hell as needed. when you spend above $60K for a car, you better love most everything about it, including how it looks and feels inside and out.
again, just personal preference.

...Surprisingly, the Corvette as shown in my picture, was bought for $43K, not $60K, so the bang for the buck factor goes up significantly.
I own a lot of cars, have not ever thought I'd buy a Corvette, until a friend took me on a drive in his Z06, and convinced me to test drive one... That was all it took. BTW, as understood by most of us, it's a totally different car than the Audi's we all drive and love. I have 4 cars and these 2 are in the stable... they both have their niche.
I neither use Viagra nor have hair transplants. Not that I don't need it. ;-)
Like I said, people don't like Corvette because of some... stigma or something... but the cars themselves are really good and deserve kudos as such...

based upon years of listening to the tragedies that befall a vette owner.
The cars are a piece of crap. Sorry to burst your bubble.
