View Full Version : Gasohol in the RS6 - will it run on Gasoline mixed with Corn Alcohol......may be a new law.... Dr.Aronis 07-29-2005, 05:59 PM no.radar 07-29-2005, 07:36 PM jatwrite 07-29-2005, 08:04 PM I think it was my 98 A4. I was trying to save a few bucks at the gas pump & buying Sunoco. When I mentioned this to my service manager, he discouraged that practice because in Michigan, Sunoco is up to 10% ethanol. He said long term use of ethanol will eat away at the fuel lines -- for Audis at least, and maybe for all German cars (dealer also sold BMW at the time). I don't understand all the hoopla about ethanol. There was a report some years ago showing that more energy was used to produce ethanol (planting, fertilizing, harvest etc) than was saved by using it instead of normal gasoline. Has it become cheaper to produce? no.radar 07-29-2005, 08:07 PM Hy Octane 07-29-2005, 09:07 PM nature of ethanol to absorb water from the atmosphere.. this is said to cause deterioration of some components of the fuel system over time.. Now the question here is how much of this info is planted by the big oil boys to scare us off since its common knowledge that in these fat times of unheard of profits and price gougeing they dont want to have anything come along to spoil the party.. thus the negative ad comapigns against any farming subsidarys that might help this happen.. Ethanol is produced from grain which we happen to have so much of leftover every year that this is a great renewable source of energy that can make us reliant on our own farmers and land to give us unlimited clean burning fuels. With a little of that money we have spent for this strange war we're in, we could have had reasearch into ethanol ( if they havent already done this too) and solve the small problems converting to this fuel poses. But since the big oil boys stand to gain nothing here and lose everything, you can fill in the rest.. Sorry to rant, but sometimes ya gotta let it out! Dr.Aronis 07-30-2005, 06:17 AM Ethanol additive to gasoline produces a MORE Costly LESS efficient fuel. It takes a lot of energy input, in the form of buring natural gas, to produce the ethanol added to gasoline, thus the inherent production method yeilds over all, more emissions to the atmosphere, and a less effient product over all. My concern is that an Ethanol added Gasoline may RUIN my car! Gasohol is NOT the answer to the Supply and Demand problem the world is seeing. Mike Dr.Aronis 07-30-2005, 06:27 AM |
