View Full Version : I have a dilemma...Supercharged B7 S4 or RS6 w/ APR Stage II

I have about $80K to spend on a car. don't know much about the RS6 except that it's bad ass. I need a super fast sedan as I'm a big guy and don't fit very well in small sports cars.

Right now I'm between ordering a 2006 S4 and getting it supercharged by MTM or buying a 2003 RS6 and getting the APR Stage II.

help me out !!!!!!!

I'm partial to big cars, but I'm only 5'8".
Unless you are Manute Boll (SP?), you should be able to fit into either car.

Quick question: if you are choosing MTM for the S4, why go with APR for the RS6? I'd stick with MTM all the way. Granted the folks at Hoppen Motorsports aren't the best to play with, especially if you are not in FLA, but heck, MTM does have great reputation.

If you have a chance to drive either (stock vs stock), I'd say that is the best way to try it out and make your decision.

Personally, I'd pick the RS6. But you can't go wrong either way. What are your thoughts on waiting for the RS4?

my problem isn't height but width. I lift a lot and am about 6'0 260 lbs. I grew out of my M3 and M5.

the RS4 will definetly be a nice car. from what I have seen on paper the extra $20k that it will cost over an S4 doesn't really warrant the small increase in performance. plus i'm also thinking about what kinds of mods will be available for it in the near future. with such a tight engine compartment it seems very limited. I would even think about getting a stroker motor for an S4 but it seems like Motodyne is the only shop that even talks about it. I really like my Audi but it appears that getting any real engine work done to it is next to impossible in terms if new cams, heads, rings/pistons, etc.

to make a long story short, I want a sedan that does 0-60 in under 4 secs. I haven't really looked into the MTM mods for the RS6. I guess I need to do that. I just really started thinking about the RS6 today as I've never driven an automatic. I guess it may be better with all the stop and go traffic here in Vegas.

sorry for the long rambling post...

RS6 definitely feels roomier than an S4. both cars are great.

as for the math on the RS4. the RS4 will be a factory-warranteed car with comparable or better all around performance vs. an MTM supercharged S4 (from numbers i've heard on the supercharger). and the supercharging isn't cheap. have yout totalled up all the mods you want for the S4 (SC, suspension, wheels/tires, etc)?

The mod capabilities are quite a few.
Keep in mind that the tranny oil needs to be maintained as cool as possible, and I would recommend changing it at least every 20K miles if you plan to heavily mod it.
The tranny I think is the main concern here.
Heat from the engine bay is also another concern. Some folks have installed louvers on the hoods, alas XKR, but the ones I've seen were poorly done.
Also, some folks complain about the brakes. Obviously pushing the car hard will make you get pads more often, but you can always upgrade to a Movit' setup if your heart desires.

Keep in mind that MTM mods are quite expensive. Whether they are worth the price of admission is a topic for another thread. But if you got a meaty wallet, I say go for it!!!

I dont think there is any proven SC for the S4 yet.

Ask yourself if you want a tip or manual. RS6 is 5sp AT. only. S4 TIP.. I would be consious of the trans with a SC. Im not even sure if MTM recommends it for a tip.

unfortunantly, I have seen many people crash and burn because they get sucked into spending and thinking it will always be so good.

Good to hear you have a plan....good luck to you and I hope it works out.
