You here? That was fun but I knew I had no chance. Also had a ton of a/v equip in the car and was on my cell. Nice ride though.

I was driving along and I look over and see an Audi so we get to a stop sign and I floor it and he dosn't then floors it and is gone. I was like ya that was dumb (on my part) ... RS6. I honked and he waved.

just a slight tap on the throttle is all it takes..it isn't out fault...that car just does that all by itself....sometimes it surprises us too...ha ha

The new M6. 3700lbs. 500Hp v10. Fun for everyone!
Most likely faster than out stock RS6s.
The M5 however will probably be closer to the
RS6.

996 or 997?

The Carrera S 997 should be slightly faster at less than warp speed. I had a nice run-in with a Carrera 4 996, late model, on the highway last summer. We were dead even up to 160 km/h, after which I pulled slowly away every time; by 200 km/h the gap was quite a few car lengths. Porsches always seem faster than their rated output would allow.

Both the new M5 and M6 will rip the RS6 a new one on a dry road, I'm afraid... have you seen the power to weight ratios?

...I dunno... I had a 996 and the only things faster than me were a Yamaha superbike and a Ferrari 360. The RS6 was not instate at the time, but I beat my friend's S4 by a country mile.

Last time I looked the M5 was about 4100lbs+
and the M6 about 3700lbs+ The M6 will no doubt
be faster than the RS6(my estimates are 0-60 in
4.0- 4.3S and 1/4 12.5 - 12.8S). However, based
on the weight of the M5 the RS6 will not be too
far behind(if not equal). Why? My brothers S600
(496hp.v12.tt)which weighs about the same as the
RS6 will run even with the RS6 in a straight line.
The Benz has a 46 hp advantage with loads of V12
torque.
Just my opinion. Time to buy a faster car!

Power to weight ratios

RS6 - 245 bhp/ton
new M5 - 278 bhp/ton
new M6 - 298 bhp/ton

If this doesn't convince you, Autocar has tested the M5 to 100 mph in 9.8s and to the 1/4 mile at 12.8s/119 mph. I'm sorry , but the RS6 can't match this - not even close.

and compare.

I assume your 996 was a RWD Carrera with 320 bhp, power to weight ratio of 239 bhp/ton (close to RS6!)

I raced a Carrera 4, power to weight ratio 228 bhp/ton.

Granted, power to weight ratios can be "cheated" with gearing, and granted, raw hp and Cd are more important at warp speeds, but in general they are a pretty good way to compare straight line acceleration, through the gears.

it hang with my RS6. The fact that I'm at altitude makes the difference more obvious I suppose.

398HP per ton. From Porsche:

"From a standing start, it reaches 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 9.9 seconds en route to a top track speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).

To achieve that performance, we've applied a powerful V10 engine - developing 605 hp (SAE) - to an unladen weight of just 3,042 lbs (1,380 kg)."

Well obviously you don't. Maybe you'd like to tell us why...

Autocar's standing km time is virtually identical to BMW's claimed time. I see no reason to doubt this time as BMW isn't known for BS numbers.

second Autocar has been bias towards BMW in the past.

SpinEcho

I don't recall saying anything about USA numbers, not that they should be any different from the numbers BMW has published on their worldwide website. BTW, we don't all live in the USA.

As I said earlier, please explain this Autocar BMW bias, instead of repeating yourself. As an example of the opposite, the 31 July 2002 issue of Autocar compares the Jag S-Type R, RS6 sedan and E39 M5. The M5 gets a shabby 5.3 s to 60mph and 14.1 s/106 mph in the 1/4 mile, considerably worse numbers than other publications, including American mags R&T and C&D.
