Looked in the database but couldn't find anything.
Anyone had to put a new windshield in? Lucky me, I have to. Local dealer orders the part (I'm sure it's uniques, exotic and $$$), and a glass guy puts it in.
Any advice is much appreciated.

...this process. Cheap and highly receommended out here on the West Coast. They'll be doing a repair for me on the S6 windshield Monday (same deal, truck rock coming home from Tahoe on Hwy. 80.). YMMV.

Novus

It's about the size of a quarter, but it's deep. A bunch of glass came tumbling out of it. It's going to spiderweb like a bastard.
I had the windshield on my allroad reparied, and it worked well. For some reason, I take the RS6 a lot more seriously than the allroad.
Mine happened on the 101 exiting to SFO. Damned bay area.

I had it replaced by a glass guy and the part came from my Audi dealer.
Covered by insurance so don't know the cost...

...more then a few horror stories in the A6 archives of folks either trying to do it on the cheap and creating quite a mess for themselves, wrong glass being shipped, improper installs, et al. That said, if I needed to actually replace the glass on the S6, I'd be just as "serious" with it as you will be with the RS. For me, that would mean OEM glass only, and a lot of research re. who could do it right...the first time. My 2 cents.
.......windshield replacement falls under the comprehensive portion of your insurance. A comp claim will NOT raise your rates.
Youp comp deductible is probably $100.
Whatever it costs, your out of pocket wont exceed that deductible........
Many insurance companies will even waive the deductible if you try a repair first.
I would always try to get a repair first. 2 days after I got my Yukon, a Sysco truck drove onto the shoulder and sent a rock into my driver side top windshield.
I had it repaired and I was the only who ever noticed it. I'd always stick the little oil change thingie over the hole so it wouldn't bother me......

Thanks for the advice. Did a bit of research and heard horror stories about replacements -- most having to do with glue and fault leaks. Cabin noise, moisture, all sorts of issues.
Safe-lite is coming to the parking garage and fixing it while I work. Insurance co, since I opted for repair, is paying for in sans deductible.
