AUDI CANADA Transmitted by Canada NewsWire on : December 18, 2003 10:30 The Audi RS 6: Will now be sold in Canada AJAX, ON, Dec. 18 /CNW/ - previously only available in North America in the U.S. will now be sold in Canada. The company's most powerful model to date, the RS 6 features an engine producing an amazing 450 horsepower at 6,500 revolutions per minute, making it a world-class luxury sedan with the heart of a sports car. The RS 6 is based on the victorious Le Mans R8 racing car that has proved itself throughout the European race circuit. It will be the pièce de résistance on the Audi stand at both the Montreal and Toronto auto shows at the beginning of 2004. RS 6 is among the fastest five passenger sport sedans ever to enter the North American market and will cost $109,000. Only 90 of these astonishingly powerful, limited production performance Audis will be brought to Canada. Tuned by quattro GmbH, the high-performance arm of Audi AG, the RS 6 is the first vehicle quattro GmbH has produced for the North American market. The lineage makes the sleek RS 6 among the fastest five-passenger sport sedans ever to enter the Canadian market, with a 0-100km/hr time of just 4.7 seconds. The RS 6 4.2-liter V8 produces an incredible 415 lbs. ft. of available torque across a wide range of 1,950-5,600 rpm; top speed is electronically governed at 250km/hr. Electronically controlled waste gates and twin intercoolers optimize engine performance. Emphasizing sports car-like driving, engineers specifically tuned a five-speed Tiptronic(R) automatic transmission for the RS 6. The RS 6 driver can also operate the transmission manually in either of two ways: by briefly pressing the gear selector front or back in the Tiptronic shift gate, or via race-inspired shift paddles behind the steering wheel. The ventilated and cross-drilled disc brakes work in tandem with sizeable Brembo(R) four-pad, eight-piston brake calipers at the front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear. Front and back brake calipers are painted black, with the front calipers displaying a unique red and silver RS 6 logo. The RS 6 exterior exudes sophisticated appeal with its progressive, clean design. Below and in front of the aluminum fenders and hood, a low apron houses three air intake apertures behind diamond-patterned grilles. The two outboard intakes, flanked by fog lights, provide air for the engine's twin intercoolers, while the aluminum-trimmed centre air intake is one of two for engine cooling.
