At least mine did on a recent night in a location which shall remain undisclosed.
To borrow from Bob Seger and Chevy trucks, it felt like a rock. I've been up to 145 before, and 140 another time (Bonneville Salt Flats), and of course it's a bit scary to drive that fast for someone who doesn't do it often. But each time is less scary, and this time I was able to determine that handling remains capable (for a couple of lane changes at least) & it felt like it would cruise all day at 120-140. The worst part is getting back down to 65-75 because after triple digits, it seems so S...L...O...W....
I guess I could be accused of being irresponsible for doing this, so for those who care, I only do it on straight sections of divided highways when visibility is excellent and no traffic is visible, either behind me or in front of me. When it becomes visible, I slow down. Thus I never end up doing it for very long because at those speeds, distant traffic arrives quickly.
I'm usually alone; once my g/f was with me so I asked her permission first. I would not even consider it with minors on board, or probably anyone under 25 or 30.
Aside from an aunt and some cousins, I have no family and believe I have taken an approach that virtually eliminates risk to all except myself.
Will I consider doing this in an atmosphere that's better designed to handle such speeds? You bet -- when it happens next year in Nevada, where anyone can reach triple digit speeds for 90 miles of public highway on certain weekends. Check silverstateclassic.com ... maybe I'll see you there! (P.S. I'm told their first event is the third weekend in May, followed by same in July and September, and I'll probably opt for May because it's so much hotter later.[EDIT:] Also plan to attend their pre-weekend performance driving school, which is required for rookies, even tho I have one Audi school under my belt...cuz the Audi school was not about going 140 mph. That's what the Nevada tech guy -- whose day job is with Carrol Shelby -- sez will be the top speed allowed for an RS6 with harness[es].)
