View Full Version : turbos dial back in the heat ljackski 10-21-2003, 06:45 PM SoCal heatwave seriously affects my performance. Anyone else experince this? TheBrit 10-21-2003, 11:56 PM so you get less oxygen charge anyway. Secondly, the intercoolers are air-to-air design (they act more like heat sinks really), so warmer air flowing over them is less able to extract heat from them, and they suffer from heat soak faster. Add in the fact that your A/C is probably running full tilt to keep the inside cool (and it's dumping heat into the engine bay, where that siren/fan has to kick in to move it out), and you're looking at a lot of losses there. Anyway, how come you're allowed a heat wave? Over here in Britland, it was only a couple of degrees above freezing last night. Having complained about the cold weather, I've got to say that heated seats and cold intake air made for one happy Brit last night... ljackski 10-22-2003, 06:18 AM I understand the whole air density factor, that is why there are intercoolers. I've had three 200TQ's and never had the computer turn off the boost this much. It was like not having any boost at all and with the low compression, very poor performance. My S6 didn't have these issues. Ah, the heat....I really don't care for these temps >100 deg. farenheit.(bloody hot!) ljackski 10-22-2003, 06:28 AM I seriously thought there was something wrong under the hood. TheBrit 10-22-2003, 07:26 AM how does the ECU know when the car is 'at altitude'? MAF? How would high air temps and perhaps low humidity affect MAF readings? Of course, it could be a faulty MAF (if the MAF is responsible for such things), leading to incorrect readings and a dialling back of boost to the level you've indicated. Anyone with a bit more technical know-how care to comment? ljackski 10-22-2003, 07:41 AM hardware because of the heat here. Supposedly, one of the reasons for price difference from euro spec. |
