Can someone from Europe tell us more about the engine mods available and warrantied in Europe? What mods, who provides them, whether it affects service intervals etc?
I know I could do a search, but If I can get all the info (re-)posted here maybe the next step is a real petition to AoA from real owners with real (Euro) data.
regards
Mark

...RS6.com (AudiWorld has more subscribers, I believe, but for European response you might do better there.)

In fact, I think the Abt RS 6 chip is the only mod that Audi UK will allow an automatic warranty on - everything else is down to the owner having to prove the mod didn't cause any problem. The mod does not affect service intervals.
As for non-RS 6 mods, there's a whole host of tuners here in the UK and across Europe, in the UK the names are ones you will be familiar with (MTM, Abt, APR, Milltek, Statmosphere etc), but in Mainland Europe there's a whole host of other tuners like Hohenester (sp?) that haven't really made inroads into the UK market yet.
Your question was a bit open-ended, if there's anything more specific I'll try to answer as best I can.

so I guess ABT is it, it's all I remember hearing about. Here in the US it's extremely unlikely Audi would offer any kind of upgrade (BMW supports Dinan upgrades for example) which is a shame.
Although to be honest, this car doesn't really need more power. It's driver needs to be better first... :-)

in Germany for reprogramming (along with the TCM), and is 'blessed' by quattro Gmbh before being returned to the dealer for refitting. UK price is in the region of £3000, a lot of which probably underwrites the warranty.

Depending where you are,the importer may authorise certain modifications but this is purely the decision of the importer and is not supported in any way by Audi AG or Quattro GmbH. The importer like the dealer cannot be prevented from such actions but then has full responsibility towards the customer for the products or services he offers. Should a warranty claim arise the dealer has to assess the situation and decide how to handle it.
If the claim can be traced back to a modification which the dealer fitted but is not approved by the Audi importer then he has to decide whether he absorbs the claim or passes it on to the tuner. If the claim can be traced back to a modifiaction which is approved by the Audi importer then he can pass it onto the Audi importer who then decides whether to pass it on to the tuner or not. Under European law, if the defect has nothing to do with any modifications made to the vehicle then the importer has to honour the warranty he offers.
The warranty offered by Audi AG is the minimum required by European law, 24 months / unlimited mileage for private vehicles. Should an importer offer a warranty over and above this it is the importer who has to carry the risk.
GmbH
A further point is that in Europe the is currently on going discussions about the Warranty, Gurantee and Goodwill offered by the automotive manufacturers. Each of these terms has a different meaning and ramification.
At the end of the day your contact person is your dealer, talk to him and see if he is willing to support any modifications. If he is not try to find one who is.
