Here's the deal: I have a '95 90 with ~103k miles. The body and chassis are in remarkably good condition, but the motor is on it's way south. I also may have a source for a good 12v from a B5 A4.
Has anyone here done this? Any advice on what I will need and what kind of snafus I should look out for if I swapped the B5 motor in?
I'm not looking for a performance upgrade, I'm just hoping to get another 50-100k miles out of my car!
Thanks!

What is the engine code? I'm currently swapping an AFC into an AAH 90Q and having some problems.

The older ECU may work, considering you're swapping OBD2 engine into an OBD1 vehicle. I'm not sure. The harnesses may be different. And I think using the OBD2 ECU from the A4 would open a whole 'nother can 'o worms...
The BEST situation would be to get the engine from a donor with the same engine code/ECU revision as your 90.
Is the 12v w/ 103k really in that bad of shape? What happened to it?

OBDII just adds sensors, which if the computer isn't looking for them shouldn't need to be hooked up, right?
20k with a leaky headgasket is finally catching up with it. Since I may have a readily available donor, doing a transplant seems easier than open heart surgery. I'm sure I'm over simplifying things, but you get the idea. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!
as long as transmissions from both vehicles are the same with regard to manual/automatic.

a AAH in it.
number 6hunderd and something of the 1995 model year run. I guess I got what was lying around the factory in Germany form the previous year.

isn't going to solve any other problems that the bad head gasket may have caused. Something about tearing down and rebuilding the existing engine seems harder and more prone to screw ups than just dropping in a new one. But I could be totally wrong about that.

it's definitely an AFC, and both engines are from manual transmission quattros.

If it made it 20k with a bad head gasket it should go another 50-100k with a good one.
If I was going through the trouble to take the engine out of my car, there would be something bigger going back in ;p

As for my swap I'm running but with NO idle it doesn't even try. I have checked my vacuum thoroughly also cleaned my ISV and swapped coolant sensors.
