Ok guys. I could use a little help/insight here..

I have a 96 A4 with the 2.8 v6 The other day right after washing the car, I had the red oil light come on while driving in a parking lot. I immediately shut the car off and checked the oil. Oil was fine. Started it back up and no oil light. Next day, the light came on again.

Now.. I checked the white sensor by the oil filter. It was leaking. I replaced it as well as the oil pan gasket and did an oil change. Started it back up and drove it around. No light.

Next day, the light comes back on. Now.. It only comes on around 2,000 rpms. it will idle forever with no light, and if I rev it up quickly the light never comes on. But if I slowly bring the rpms up, right at 2,000 rpms it chimes and the oil light comes on. If I rev it higher, it will go out. Same with letting it fall back to idle.

Car runs fine otherwise and has no odd noises or anything.

Sorry for the long post.
Any help is appreciated.

and use a good Bosch or Mann brand filter!

I changed the filter to MANN from using Wix, and havent had a problem with it coming on since. They are fairly inexpensive on this website

http://www.germanfilters.com/</a

The oil light only comes on when the pressure drops to a critically low level, not if it is weak. That would rule out a weak oil pump. I bought my wife's '96 A4 with a similar problem. They told me it had no oil pressure. When I got it home the light would not come on but the thing would rattle like a diesel. I was taking to a shop to have it tested when the light came on for the first time for me. I ended up replacing the engine with a used one ($450) for about the cost of a new oil pump ($400).
