Turns out i'm gonna have to replace my steering rack. I've been doing some searches on which steering rack I need and am coming up with on by ZF and one by Koyo. How do I know which one I need? I have an Audi A4 1997 2.8 non-quat.

while doing some internet searches, looks like i should replace the hose to the rack? Are there two hoses or just one?
Do I need to purchase the steering dampner??

you probably have a ZF rack, but don't hold me to that. I wrote a tech article that's posted in the AW tech section. Give it a look see to let you know what you're getting yourself into.

As for what parts to get

2 PS hoses (high and low pressure iirc) Be aware that they're ridiculously expensive

crush washers

Tie Rod ends if yours are shot

You can reuse the damper w/o an issue, so save yourself the $$.

New fluid.

Other than that, you should be golden. Not too bad of a job, just a bit time consuming.
