Was driving to the next town in the wife's 97 A6 and about halfway there we stopped at McDonalds for a burger. Started back up at continued down the road. Made it just under 3 miles and I heard a rattle coming from the engine and noticed that I was slowing down. Looked in the rear view saw smoke. Pulled into the next parking lot with no power steering. Basically the engine cut off and was over heated. The smoke was just residual oil burning off the motor. When I tried to crank the engine it sounded like there was no compression.

After a 28 mile tow, the car is in my driveway. I'll be outside poking around today to try to find the culprit. I can't imagine I'll get out of this one cheap.
