View Full Version : so what is the diff between a hvrs and the standard recovery sleeve.. odelay12v 06-04-2008, 11:36 AM i have one but not sure which it is.. i know if i had a pic it would be seconds for mance to tell .. but alas its at home.. and i now thought about the question.. it came with out the barb ends and not taped. thanks odelay12v 06-04-2008, 11:38 AM EDIGREG 06-04-2008, 11:44 AM VAP 06-04-2008, 11:57 AM recovery sleeves are never "taped" tho the HVRS does have a "tapered" inlet. Easy way to remember with a recovery sleeve is in it's name, ie: HVRS = High Velocity Recovery Sleeve due to it's velocity stack inlet. Non-HV recovery sleeve is simply an "RS" or Recovery Sleeve with no integrated velocity stack. odelay12v 06-04-2008, 01:14 PM

i thought that the recovery sleeve needs to be taped to get the barb in for the breather hose connections? that what i was meaning as being taped as in the pic the recovery sleeve i have didnt have the barb spots taped yet as i still need to do that. VAP 06-04-2008, 01:23 PM thread the fittings all the way in until until barbs are oriented upwards and aim directly at the valve cover breather outlet barbs when RS is mounted correctly. Then I bore the barb threaded protrusions flush with the recovery sleeve's internal walls to prevent any turbulence or flow restriction within the recovery sleeve. The recovery sleeves I sell without barbs may have Teflon tape used on their threads after tapping but since that is done by the owner instead of me it could be sealed with paste, tape, silicone, thread-locker or other sealants. B4 airbox velocity stacks require taping to fit but not in the "classic sense." Those VS's are about .024" smaller OD than the airbox ID. That requires they be completely wrapped with 6-7 layers of viny electrical tape around their straight wall section to fit tightly/snugly when twisted by hand into the airbox outlet bore. And all this is why when I see the words "tape/taped/tap/tapped/taper/tapered" I'm never sure the meaning one is referring to since I use all these methods in various components.
