View Full Version : Is this a STB? Do I need to remove any other components before sending this TB to Mance?

I finally got time to pull the TB from one of my 97 A6q auto trans this evening. I thought I might find a "S" stamped somewhere on it. Alas...it's evidently not that straight forward.

A search revealed a post that once showed the difference between the TB and STB, but the pic has long since disappeared. Another post said that a look at the bottom of the TB would reveal the mysterious gospel truth.

So...is this a STB? (And how do you tell?) Should I remove any other parts before sending it over to you, Mance?

when I first discovered there was a larger-bore TB back in October 2003. Prior to my discovery it was thought ALL 12V throttle bodies were identical other than manual or automatic versions. You wont find the "S" term being used anywhere but hereabouts or specifically as a designation for my SXTB and RSXTB throttle bodies. I needed to call this newly discovered throttle body "something" to set it apart from the standard 12V TB and "Big Bore 12V Throttle Body" was too long. STB was the name I chose to stand for "Special Throttle Body."

If you're going to keep it for an automatic transmission car then send the kick-down switch with the TB along with its mounting screws. If you send the TPS (throttle position sensor without mounting screws as they are replaced with stainless ones) then I will re-calibrate both switches to Bentley spec before returning to you. And a new TB gasket comes with any/all of my modified TB's. Or just ship EVERYTHING fully assembled as in pic and we'll discuss what gets done via email.

The normal TBs have a wider area between the venturi outlets.

I suppose you could take off the WOT switch, but everything else stays on.

a modified TB? I ask because there are a few German friends with the 2.6 and no MAF that have wondered if any of these mods would help them out.

and Pacific Rim countries. One to an old 12V forum member that lives in mainland China. Most have the "chippable" Bosch ECU and get even better/stronger results than we do.

bought a couple of throttle bodies off of A6 sedans and they've all looked the same as my Avant t.b.
