View Full Version : Another firestarter....how would you define a "proper" tuneup for these engines? I've owned...

my car for 6 months, it has 58k and I've changed the oil to M1, put in +2 Bosch plugs (might change soon to 9s) and done 02 sensors and air filter.
These engines seem much more "sealed" by their use of an ECU than a car like my 2002 BMW of many moons ago, something I could restore/work on myself quite easily. Anything else I can do to maximize performance AND mileage?
Thanks again to everyone for the great debates and advice- this is the best and most well-made car I've ever owned (drafty and rusting 2002 notwithstanding...)

Clean the ISV you can search how too's on both these items with the search funktion. Also at 60k isnt it just about due for a timing belt or is that a 90k intervale? If you do the Timing belt make sure you get a kit. Change the vac lines and clean the throttle boddy, plentum housing and crank case lines.

None of these are things you need to do just things I would think of doing.

Something you should probably do is the fuel filter. Dont be afraid to ask what any of these things are or how too. I am sure we will all help try and point you in the right direction.

and all associated belts and pulleys soon, unless you have proof positive they have already been done. Audi recommends 90k I think, but as you probably know, a timing belt failure on these engines can be catastrophic.

I'd rather do it at 60k and drive it another 60k with a clear conscience than not do it just to drive another 30k worrying the whole time.
