I am a little apprehensive about writing about it, (I don't want to jinx myself.) I can't believe that middle section can be removed with out freaking out the computer. The car has a UrS4 VS, and a hose kit. After the 30 min adjustment, the car feels great. This is all speculation on my part, but it seems to pull much harded. I also hear more intake noise. I can't imagine what a UrS4 bored one is like. Why would Audi put a large hunk of metal in the way of air intake?
Thanks UrS4 for the write up.
bored throttle body next?

Its not just a hack some metal away project. You will end up with holes in the small bore of the TB. So if your ready to bondo up some holes and think you can do it good luck. Its also a little more complicated then that as well though. Good luck if you try it.

I don't know if URs4 makes them anymore. It does sound much more difficult.

I tried to mod my own. It worked out fine. However I didnt trust I had the knologe to make one as complete as mance's. I have a hard time settling for anything but the best with somethings. I still have my modded TB and for some reason feel compeled to Mod it further now that I have the TB mance sold me. Anyway I am very upset right now. I still have a restrictive IM that needs to be ported and polished. :) I cant wait to see the feeling my a$$ gets from the first step of the pedal. Plus while I have all that apart I plan on fixing my minor oil leak.
Nice TB! Peace, Thomas

You may have problems with running too lean if you just remove material and do nothing to adjust the amount of air moving over the sensor wires. Some have problems with CELs ("computer freakout"), some don't. If you aren't having problems now, you may be one of the lucky ones, or your problems may just surface later. Mance solved this problem with o-rings. I used a mini plastic velocity stack I got from patience.
Which write-up are you referring to? Mance has shared much knowledge about MAFs here, I've learned alot from him. I'd love to see some pics of your finished product.

about a 4 wire MAF swap. So I guess I can thank you for asking the question. I found it by searching "MAF hack saw"
Thanks for the advice. I will try and get some pics up.

What is the full part number of the MAF you modified? If it is a 078133471A then you can get away with removing the entire sampling tube like this (very nice work mori.) This will allow even more flow than the partial sampling tube variety like mine. I only did mine that way since I thought that was my only option with my 4 wire sensor, but I've since discovered a better electronic work around for that. I've stayed with that housing since my car runs so well with it (incredibly so), but I have a 078133471A sitting here waiting for me to have some free time to hack it up. I hope to eventually send it out for transformation to a Stage 3, which goes even further with an increased bore diameter. That's not a DIY job however.

I do have the 078133471A. I wanted to start small and see how it worked. I think it feels very affective. Like you, I would like a stage 3 some day : )

It is strange it took three days of driving. I am not sure what to do next?
