Is it just a LL (LongLife) version? How's the size compared to the previous one and to the ones for the 2.8? At what oil pressure does it begin to bypass? Why do you think it's better in the 2.8?

I'm not sure if it is a LL version or not. Being larger, having more filtering media and more oil capacity seems to be a good idea to me. I have no idea about the by-pass pressure valve in it.

Before Audi caught on, we ran the larger VW Diesel filter.

Ran it on my 1986 Coupe.

Ran it on my 1988 90.

Now its on my 1993 90.

I am sure the oil runs cooler. However, I dont have the Aux gauges hooked up yet. And second the bars on our oil guages represent such a wide range of motion (I think) that you wouldnt be able to notice it on the Oil temp gauge. Anyway it is bigger and able to filter more. And considering all the Mobil 1 filters at my local auto parts store are the same price, I went for the largest one I could match up. So I matched the small one with the biggest I could fine that would still fit. And the 301 was what I found. Its seriously huge lol.

I change the filter. Doing this, will lighten to oils color so its not so dark. Then I run another 3-4000, and change oil & filter.

IMO, changing Mobil 1 @ 3000 is nuts! ;O)
