Alright I had my oil changed at 88K now its a few miles short of 90K and the oil light is coming on. I just checked the oil and its very very low. I cannot find any leaks under the car so I am really worried that its something internal. It shouldn't burn threw 6 quarts of oil in 2K miles. Thats just rediculous. Its a 96 2.8Q and I was running 20W-50 Dino in it.Anyone got any ideas?

If you're not leaking the oil, you're burning it. If you have more than 120k miles on it, I'd suspect worn/shrunken valve stem seals. Or maybe that crap 20W-50 dino has ruined your rings. That stuff is loaded with viscosity improvers. A 30 point spread in a dino oil isn't acceptable. If you want to be thrifty, use cheap Shell Rotella T 5W-40.

yeah i know its rediculus but apperantly that's the truth. But if it would make u feel better mine burns through 1 quart every 700 miles. And it has only 140k.

since i know mine are a total loss i was asking the guys over at the c4 forum if they knew how difficult it was on the audi and they discouraged me. I've done them on a Fiesta and it was really easy. Now if u have some input on the procedure i know u'll be happy to share it w/us for some donuts ;-)

3 quarts every 1k miles is not acceptable by any standard. That will poison the cats. I know Audi claims 1 liter per 1k km is okay, but that's when towing a boat uphill in high heat. It's also their way of covering their corporate ass.

Worn valve stem seals are a major cause for high oil consumption. On my Sciroccos I had to replace them every 50k miles, or I'd burn vast amounts of oil.

Other than that I don't know what the previous owner ran for oil.

I've been fighting (and losing) oil consumption for 150K miles. The valve job was a major disappointment if you want the truth. Specifically verified that I was getting new valve stem seals along with rest.

Oil consumption is up to a qt every two tank fulls (Say 450 miles)
Seems to be worse with RPMs above 4K. Too bad, cause AA modified engine loves RPMs above 5K.

In process of trying the Marvel Mystery oil treatment, but so far have seen little improvement from that. Wondering if it might be part of why my new injector was not noticibly better than the old ones.

Still, otherwise car is best I'v ever owned so I just feed it oil.

I think MikTip had some good advice on how to R&R valves and stem seals. You'll need to make and adaptor form an old spark plug and compressed air to to remove the valves. And then there are different materials for valve stem seals, I think. Viton is probably best? Better ask MikTip and UrS4, as they know exactly what's involved and required.

The O2 sensors won't like the metallic additives that cause ash deposits and cat poisoning either.

I threw in some of that Lucas oil treatment at the same time. The knock that I have had since I bought the car has disappeared already. Hopefully it will help with something else.

I was thinking no. Springs need to be removed and compressed air into the spark plug port will keep the valves from dropping. Correct?

I'm not sure what to say. Maybe check daily?
