Dis assembling the head? I plan to clean/protect moving parts very carefully.

Reason is that I want to do the head workshop in two stages. Makes initial disassembly reassembly of these first heads "wasted" effort/money:
First open up injector ports on a set of heads from junk yard in hopes of improving mileage, and if that gives extra power, so be it.

Then, do the "real" head workshop on my current AAH heads. This might take a long time to finish...

removing rags. Aluminum isn't very harmful even if some gets inside the combustion chambers. But silicon carbide (sanding media) is BAD.

Better pick up a carbide "aluma-cut" bur for grinding (approx $20), then finish with 40 grit then 60 grit flapper wheels. Even 80 grit if you'd like a finer finish but NO smoother! Without the carbide bur you'll be grinding on each runner for days and you'll blow thru flapper wheels like there's no tomorrow. One carbide aluma-cut bur and 2ea flapper wheels in 40/60 (80 optional) will do the entire job easily. Or count on about $150 worth of flapper wheels without the carbide bur.

Tape and mask all under valve cover area off before starting as grinding dust sand/silicone carbide) will want to stick lifter bores, lifters, springs, retainers, valves, cams. Better still if you have spare valve covers with gaskets as you can just leave them installed and plug the breather outlet and grind away.

The prospect of grinding for a couple days while bent over the engine seems painful. You might adapt this scenario: Simply equip the mouse with a grinder.

Just bending forward very slightly for prolonged periods gives me a terrible lower back pain. It's a good excuse for not washing the dishes, by the way. ;-)
