View Full Version : I'm gonna give Stasis a shot today for equal-length headers...

as I'm sure thats what they use on their racing 2.8 12V. See if they're willing to part with a set or have a smaller-runner set made as I'm sure their primary runner I.D.'s are larger than I'd like to see.

If that doesn't happen then I'm going to do the next best thing available to me, ie; send a pair of AFC exhaust manifolds off to Extrude Hone for Level II extrude honing. Nowhere near as good as the headers I'd like but way better than stock. I just need to do this quickly as EH is running 6-8 weeks out on finished parts right now and that is approaching my installation date for heads & IM et al.

BTW: the AAH exhaust manifolds are not suitable for "easy" adaptation to AFC blocks due to EGR/O2 provisions being different. Appears far easier to remain with the exhaust manifold that came with the car rather than do all new plumbing related to OBDI/OBDII differences. Too bad too as I have AAH exhaust manifolds and now will have to get AFC ones instead.

I don't hold out much hope they'll sell an existing set or offer to make me a set. But I gotta ask. Least then I'll have covered every base before "settling" on Level II extrude-honed exhaust manifolds.

very convenient for our purposes :)

just isnt a great design the way he loops one pipe and runs the other two semi-straight to the collector. It ends up being an equal-length but dissimilar balance due to the radius being so dramatic on the rear cylinders primary runner.

Remember that with exhaust even one 90 degree mandrel bent radius is equal to +/- 20ft of straight tubing flow-wise. Given that you can imagine how much affect is imparted to the rear-most cylinder with that huge, looping runner.

Most good equal-length primary pipes will be similarly shaped, radiused and curved making the tubes longer in order to keep all radii bends and runners very similarly shaped rather than what TDL did. Which is to make the longest primary tube as short, straight shot as possible then loop the remaining tubes into a circle/semi-circle to compensate.

Given what I've boned-up on lately I'm not convinced you guys that bought TDL's un-equal length headers got a lesser performing system than if you'd sprang for the equal length system. Or if so, certainly not enough of a power penalty to justify the almost double-price for the equal-length setup.

Equal-length is important to me. But only if it's also equal-flowing.

this header has some interesting design features<ul><li><a href="http://e30m3performance.com/installs/installs-2/exhaust/exh5.htm">http://e30m3performance.com/installs/installs-2/exhaust/exh5.htm</a</li></ul>
