I found another good place to install the reservoir . . . under the master cylinder. Need to move the battery aside to install, because the cylinder is too long to squeeze under as is--but once you get it in there, it fits nicely. Just bolt the battery back in place as usual. No need to drill holes, just attach around the aready tie wrapped battery cable. No need to reuse the long plastic tube that ran under the manifold. I would guess that I used less than a foot of vacuum tube.

The cylindrical vac reservoir replaces the spherical OEM one, which is in an impossible location. The vac hose is routed though under the intake manifold, where the hose gets cooked.

Looks like I have a pipe bomb under the hood. I wonder what they'll say at the smog check...
As you can see, No more OEM vacuum reservoir:

The only hit of it comes from the extra black hose under the throttle cable:
