View Full Version : Much ado about nothing... or the end of the road for throttle body development

I've done it, hit the wall performance wise and know these few facts to be true:

Don't waste your money on seeking out the special throttle body. You just can't feel the difference. The XTB is about maximum... all you can really feel or measure with a stopwatch. Sure you can get one that flows more but the engine just can't use it. Maybe if you have cams, bigger valves, exhaust and pistons but unless you have ALL of those don't even bother. You'll just pay more and doubtful you'll ever feel it.

While the RXTB on my car is functioning flawlessly now its very anti-climactic as there's absolutely zero discernable difference between it and the XTB I replaced it with. Wasted time but I had to know.

...rather than the destination that keeps things interesting?

now it's no good unless I pretty much upgrade the whole engine? arghhhh

i guess that's the life of modding, you never know :)

i figure it's better to flow Too much than to flow too little...

with better heads, cams, pistons, exhaust etc. you *might* be able to get a helluva gain with the RXTB over an XTB... worth considering at least =)

it was a fun ride while it lasted though

check yah later

I wonder if it would make a noticable diff on my car, because of my cams, and ported heads?

set of cams maybe?

a Split Second ARC-2 although I am considering finishing my exhaust or doing the IM workshop. It will probably be the ARC-2, though.

The headers are probably going to cost around $800 to install and fabricate some downpipes. I don't have that kind of cash so I was going to try to install them myself and pay to get the exhaust hooked up but I have to wait until I have a lot of free time and some extra money. It's going to be a PITA.

You can do headers yourself in a weekend...then, you'll have to drive your car like that to your exhaust shop to fab the downpipes, or tow it. It shouldn't cost you too much. You could also get material, pipes, connectors yourself for cheaper and just pay labor.

I thought you were on IM already? Better get on it! And yes, AFC would be nice, but I'll wait for it until I really need it.

because I've been broke for a while.

After I found out what the labor would have cost for the headers I decided to try to do it myself just as you described. Should be a fun ride to the exhaust shop with no exhaust hooked to the headers. :-) I need to wait until I have some money to spend on the mandrel bent pipe.
