I didnt have any carb cleaner. I was planning on filling it up with the mineral spirits and letting it sit for awhile then empty it out and let it dry completely.

Anyone see any problems with this, or has anyone used mineral spirits instead of carb cleaner? TIA

This "little" maintenence has turned itnot a little nightmare, i have never had such a time trying to remove 3 nuts(even though my girl will tell ya that i got 1 off last night pretty quick). One good thing though is that when i pulled out the ECT that i replaced last month(and it made no difference) I noticed that when i replaced it i must have bent a prong on it and it wasnt total connected so that may explain why it didnt make a difference. Obly time will tell though

GOD I NEED A VAG!!!!!!

If I were you, I'd get carb or brake cleaner. You don't want to have to remove the ICV again. And yes, those 3 nuts are a royal PITA! Luckily, some of my tools are magnetized.

it actually looks like it may have been replaced at on time, but cant tell for sure, it didnt looked gummed up at all. I got impatient wating for a reply so i filled it up and let it sit for about 30 minutes, rinsed it really well and it is drying right now. Should i really go get the carb cleaner?

why waste 5 bucks? ;-)

Did you check the resistance across the terminals to determine if the ICV was within specs?

Local napa sells the stuff I used on my IM for $1.79 a can... It's worth it in my book. When I swapped my IM for the TDL "ported" IM I cleaned mine. There was a lot of black stuff that flushed out lemme tell you. Worth it in the long run for the $3 for carb cleaner (price increased to compensate for gas and time to go get it =P). Just my 2 cents

Gas - 4 bucks, feeding parking meter - 25 cents, carb cleaner - $1.79, finding bird poop on your hood - priceless.

It's actually faster than trying to drive over there.

BTW, napa doesn't make you pay for a parking meter though ;)
