specs then when he saw I was getting such good results with the XTB he switched to that one instead.

As many of you remember my RTB (racing throttle body) flowed 675CFM and I told him yesterday that since the regular TB's are flowing 615CFM that the special one would likely match that.

I just came in from flowing all the TB's I converted today for confirmation of flow numbers. All are within .5-.75% of the numbers I've given.

Oh and that lil cabriolet TB... 707CFM!! 15% better than a standard XTB and 32CFM more than my RTB!!! So all those with S3's don't feel too badly as I just learned I spent 15 hours and ruined (comparatively speaking) a perfectly good cabriolet TB on a modification that flows worse than one that takes 2 hours. Grrrr! I really screwed the pooch on that one. I'm ok losing the time tho forking out another $100 for yet another Cab TB sticks in my craw a bit.

They need all the air they can get. ;-)
The search for that mysterious TB is well-documented on the forum. I think one dedicated individual actually found out from which MY convertible it came. Alas, this is all I know.

as that's the origin of the RTB. I just didn't realize that Mance was looking to create another one. Or that anyone was actually willing to pay for one to be made... oh well, confused as usual

You're usually well-informed. My bad. Attribute my reply to a lack of sleep and abundance of coffee, if you will. ;-)

as that TB's benefit is larger outlet bore it flows 12-15% better in stock form so it stands to reason it would flow better in S1, S2, S3 or RTB/XTB form since it has a larger outlet bore from the factory. Thats explicitly the reason I chose it for the RTB. The larger outlet bore is still larger when converted to any of the above designations.

But there's still a lot of questions about which car it actually belongs to. The one he sent me he was told came off a 97 Cabriolet (I believe). However when it showed up it was marked with "A6" with junkyard paint so its origin is a long way from being proven, established or even really known. All I can confirm is it was/is indeed the "special" TB of lore confirmed by measurement.

and I'm not too happy that you, even for a second, have a better-flowing throttle body than I do.

But no hurry as it was just occupying space on a shelf anyway waiting for the intake manifold to be finished.

but yea, those special ones would make great S3/XTB candidates!!

does it have the part # which we've determined to identify these mystery ones?
