View Full Version : How about a 97A4 with an AAN 500+HP engine?

Our driver sold his last hill climb car so now it's time for a new ride. He wants to do another hill climb car and another is encouraging him to do a dual-purpose SCCA hill climb/ITE road racer. And I'm pulling at him to do a pure ITE car. He wants 500+HP which is easily doable but we're trying to talk him into closer to 400 for reliability.

We'll start gutting the 97 A4 next week as we only have 2 months til the first event. We're shooting for a 2500lb (wet) car.

Should be a fun project... my favorite Audi chassis (B5) with my favorite Audi engine (AAN).

I'd prefer a single purpose ITE road car as thats my roots but it's his money, his car. I think a dual-purpose, hybrid car set up for two different styles of racing is too much of a compromise, ie; compromise some things for the hills and compromise other things for the asphalt. I've got a suspicion before the season's over it'll be one or the other and very competitive rather than the pre-season pipe dream it's being conceptualized as today. Besides the SCCA schedule for the upcoming year has too many conflicting race dates for both classes.

Doesnt break my heart that I get the 2.8 motor with 77k, ECU and anything else that "falls off" during the conversion of the 97 A4 in exchange for my contribution. Hmmm a 13:1 2.8 racer in my future? Maybe next year. We'll see.

Gonna be an interesting race season this year!
