View Full Version : UrS4 (Mance), How do you take the screen out of the MAF? I have a 2.8 30v with a cone filter ....

intake from Lltek and I want to get one of those Akimoto filters you recommended with the integrated velocity stack. Would I encounter any CEL's from this type of velocity stack with the screen removed? What gains can I expect coming from the cone filter setup I have now? Would I gain a lot more from your Stage 3 MAF with the velocity stack cone filter?

the screen you need to get out with a toothpick or a flat head screwdriver or something. if you plug everything back in, you will not get an CEL's. the MAF and VS are definitely nice to have.

and he won't find it on this forum.

Lets let him tell us what year his car is then we'll tell him or refer him correctly.

Unscrew and remove the sensor then lay a thick cushion of rags inside then place a broad piece of wood inside to distribute the load of tapping more evenly over the screen assembly. Better tp press it out with the same tecnique but not everyone has access tp a press. Bear in mind you also risk destroying the screen using either method as an adhesive is used when they are assembled. I havent broken a housing yet using a press and once you have a de-screened housing you can always swap new sensor assemblies in/out if the sensor goes south on you.

Once the screen is out sand/smooth any rough edges, clean and re-install sensor assembly.

exponentially more sensitive and complex programming than ours. Hard to make general or blanket statements regarding what will work on his. I've grappled with one for 7 months and am no closer today than when I started trying to get it to flow better.

Best I've been able to come up with is that it likes the velocity stack without screen but HATES Stage 3 housings. And since the Akimoto series filters using an identical velocity stack to mine he's wanting to try that. The LLTek is dramatically different in it's angles, transitions and rim profiles.

this velocity stack that Akimoto or whatever sells is just as good as what u make Mance? so with an Akimoto filter(cone i presume), their velocity stack, and screen delete, how will the gains compare to ur setup with stg3 MAF and VS?

to install a cone filter on it. I don't offer any parts for cone setups.

The velocity stack is for a stock airbox.

Both will benefit from a stage 3 MAF as long as the MAF is a 471A or 471C. But 471C requires purchasing a 471A MAF from a salvage yard to send me for conversion.

getting familiar with the forum. just trying to help him out.

and that he would find "all his answers" here. I just wanted to make clear he won't find any reference whatever to a 30V, 98, 98.5 or 99.5 and later 471E MAF or the questions he was asking on "this" forum. And with over 1750 posts to sorth thru manually, one at a time, I thought he might not appreciate the time, effort and ultimate futility his search would have yielded here. It would've been a total wild goose chase. Compounded by this being a forum having no "search" capabilities. He'd be searching a long, LONG time here seeking those answers. Answers that are not here to begin with nor as it turns out are the answers to his queries at any of the forums that use the 471E MAF as I just confirmed via their search engines.

I'll remember to watch my blanket statements next time ;)

my housing yet to check. Looks like I'll definitely do the cone filter with integrated VS and de-screened MAF since I won't have the Stage 3 as an option unless I find a 471A. Thanks again.

stock MAF will work okay even with my sensor that you say is much more sensitive than the earlier units? No CELs? Nice upgrade from my current cone set up from Lltek? TIA.
