View Full Version : Recovery sleeve questions...

First off thanks Mr. D for the pic.

As I stare at my S3 kit as it sits in my closet in its box, I had been thinking about what Mance had said a while back about the oil recovery lines, and how the excess oil kills performance, etc etc. My question is, would it be feasible (sp?) to put an inline filter on these lines before they hit the recovery sleeve (where I circled in red).

The filter would be something similar to an inline air filter used to seperate the water from the air lines.

What do you guys think of this idea? It would work sorta like the oil catch can, just on a smaller scale. I don't even know if something like this exists in the size we would use... but it's worth considering I guess.

So let's discuss.

But a catch can will work tho it's not very clean, legal or "green."

I leave recovery hoses connected as a daily driver and un-plug them from the valve covers on track days. It's a good compromise that works for me.

sorta a "best of both worlds" situation...

This would be a green way of doing things, as it would collect the oil and still send the gases back into the IM... but it would also limit the volume of oil that would enter the IM.

Just an idea...

I got the Jaz mini-breather from jegs.com. I hooked it to two existing screws on the firewall. UrS4 gave me this suggestion. I have more pics on my website. Click the sig.

By the way, don't use 10mm silicone vacuum line like I did originally. Use some 3/8" rubber fuel line. That's more appropriate for the oily vapors.

I'm guessing before yes?

I'm not exactly sure how a catch can works. I know it's general purpose, but as for it's air flow, etc... i'm not positive. You have any other info?

Thanks!

you want to run a catch can. I had a sleeve with no fittings on it before I bought the recovery sleeve. This particular catch can has two inputs on it, one to each valve cover. Maybe this picture will help better?

Here's a pic of Scott12v's catch can:
