My mechanic just told me that my car has no spark and that the injectors are not working. Where do I go from here? How can I fix this?

Thanks very much!

it's a big "may," but I wouldn't rule it. I speak from personal experience. It could also be bad coil packs, ECU, & a plethora of other things. Definately best to run a diagnostic at first.

A car will not spark or squirt the injectors if it's timing is off. AKA, it won't run if the crank sensor and cam sensor(s) are out of sync.

Does this sound like the most probable cause?

Thanks very much!

It'll act as if it's gonna crank over & try to start, but just won't start in this case. Everything will seem to be just fine except for the inability to start. This happened to me when my camshaft position sensor went bad.

Just like snowking16 said, if the camshaft & crankshaft position sensors aren't in time, or are defective it'll never start. You'll just be trying to crank it over until the battery is drained. I don't mean any disrespect by criticizing, but your mechanic should've suspected that scenario immediately & tested it all out. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since I'm not there & just assume he brain farted or had too much fun over the holidays. Either way, good luck & definately get it tested.

Oh yeah, if your timing belt has slipped so much as one single tooth or has stretched as a result of a tear you'll have the same problem. My fan clutch shattered as a result of seizing & partially cut through my timing belt, & as a result it stretched the belt just enough to let the timing slip out of whack, & I ended up with the same problem. I am quite proficient at changing timing belts on A4's now. I can do a change in about 1 1/2 hrs. If Audi ever goes into the NASCAR circuit with their 12v's, I could be the designated timing belt changer. I'll just keep my day job until then.

I must have done the timing 4 times only to find out the pulley itself was messed up. You can email this picture to the mechanic, hopefully he already knows this...

Which pulley was it?

I thought I'd just realign it and have no problems... shoulda thought more about it. "Good" news is, it wasn't my fault. Phew!!! It was off by a bolt. Then, forced to fit. Bent lots of stuff in the process.

Can you believe this?

Definately the wrong pulley to screw up too, price wise. How could they have not aligned that properly, it's got a notch in it for heaven's sake. Probably a recent vo-tech grad (hopefully not a friend after I just blabbed my mouth).
