Whats exactly happening because it eventually closed back, but what the heck is going on and what do i need to change?

Sometimes it won't happen again. Sometimes it's the beginning of the end of the switch.

Inside the switch, there are some metal prongs that make contact with the circuit board. They are either 1) dirty, or 2) one of them is bent just slightly & making contact with either the wrong area, or more than one area. I just bent one of mine straight with some needle nose pliers, & voila! problem is fixed. They'll probably be dirty regrdless, so go ahead & clean them anyway.

Am I the only one who skipped that option? ;-)

Just unscrew the entire light assembly, disconnect the wire harness, & flip it over. It'll be round. You'll have to pry off the round cover, but be careful as it breaks easily. Once you remove the cover, you'll see the contacts (I think there's 6 of them). Hope that's more specific for ya. If straightening/cleaning the metal contacts doesn't work, you'll need a new switch.
