I'm not sure if they are Bosch or Valeo, though. Both companies made headlights for the A4. Bulbs are not included in that ebay auction. The seller seems to be willing to ship to other countries.

And it's not just me getting older! A whale oil lantern might be an improvement on my car. I thought that the low light output might be due to the ring around the bulb, internal to the housing, slipping back on its mounting, but this seems like a better idea.

Does the manufacturer (Bosch vs. Valeo) make much difference? What I know about the German TUV testing would leave me to think that either manufacturer would be OK.

My '85 Buick wagon's sealed beams were better. :-P

I really don't know it the Bosch or Valeo lights are better, or if there is even a difference in beam pattern. I wasn't able to compare when I spent some time in Germany a few years ago.

There are also e-codes without the integrated foglights available for our cars. I presume that they have a more even beam pattern than the ones with the integrated foglights, because the one single reflector is huge in comparison. However, those lights use H4 bulbs.

IIRC, my '65 Buick non-halogen sealed beams were better! My other car, a SAAB 9000 is "day and night" (pun intended) better with its US-spec lights.

The other night I couldn't see a driveway entrance that was off to the side - the ridiculous standard (for the US) pencil-thin beams can actually be dangerous. If the ebay.de ones are reasonable, including shipping, I think I must pop for a pair. It's no use going fast if you can't see.
